We here at wePresentUS feel like the wePresent wireless presentation system is the easiest way to get video to your display in conference rooms, training rooms, meeting rooms, and classrooms. We also want to make sure that implementing the wePresent into your specific system is as easy and straightforward as possible. Below are some faq's that we think will either answer your questions or help you make sense of the wePresent device.

WePresent Device

Can the WePresent perform as a (wireless) HD media player?

The WePresent is a presentation device. Although it is not a wireless media player, the WePresent can still play good quality video for presentational purposes. The WePresent is based on screen-capturing. It will capture and project the screen up to 30 frames per second. For watching purely video, the device can be set to Video Mode for smoother video experience.

What is the range of the wePresent WiFi signal?

The range of the WiFi signal is about 100 meters without obstructions.

Does WePresent support audio during presentations?

When WePresent is connected by HDMI it will automatically transfer audio to the display. When WePresent is connected by VGA, there is a separate audio line-out socket available on the back of the WePresent.

Does WePresent produce HDMI and VGA signal simultaneously?

The WePresent is meant to project to a single display for which you configure the settings. However, WePresent does produces 2 output signals simultaneously. When you set the output resolution of the device, you set it for the primary display. However, when you also connect a display to the secondary output, this usually also gives a projection (depending on your display/projector), this projection may not automatically fit the screen.

What kind of network security does WePresent support?

WePresent supports the IEEE standard 64/128 bit WEP / WPA / WPA2-PSK network security.

Is the WePresent vulnerable to any interference?

Because WePresent works with WiFi, it can be affected by outside interference. In unique cases, when it is in an unstable environment the wireless connection can be affected. Therefore the WePresent can be manually fixed to any preferred IP address, bandwidth, channel or SSID name for optimal performance.

Can multiple WePresents be used in one environment?

When multiple WePresents are used, make sure to assign different SSID names to each device. When WePresent is not connected to a network, you also have to manually change the IP address of each WePresent. When it is connected to any network, each WePresent will automatically receive a new IP address from the network. You can manually seperate the wifi channels from each WePresent to limit interference.

How can I easily manage multiple WePresents?

On the USB stick there is an extra utility available called SNMP Manager. With this software it is possible to manage multiple WePresent devices on one network. This software is also available on our Downloads page.

Why do I get a “WiFi busy” notification?

This notification actually means that the WePresent device needs a little extra time to handle the data transference by Wifi. The WiFi busy notification can happen when the Wifi signal is more burdened. Causes for this can be: too much distance/obstructions to WiFi receiver or wireless network, a lot of wireless activity/interference. Reducing the WePresent’s output resolution is usually the best way to reduce Wifi busyness.

What is the difference between Application and Video mode?

When the WiPG is started up, the device will be in Standard (Application) Mode for quickest interaction time. The WePresent can also be set in Video Mode for watching purely video. In this mode, the device will adjust desktop resolution and create a latency buffer between the projecting computer and the video projection, allowing better synchronization of audio and video and a smooth video experience.

Does WePresent have any security procedures and password management?

wePresent can be secured in numerous ways: 1) The WiFi signal can be encrypted with standard WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption. 2) wePresent can generate an on-screen login code. This way you can only connect to the wePresent when you are able to look at the display. 3) Access to the Admin page can be controlled by password 4) When a user logs in as Conference Control moderator, only the moderator can decide which user may project to wePresent, this moderator function can be protected by password.

What is supplied on the wePresent USB token?

The wePresent USB token contains: wePresent software (win/mac), SNMP manager (win), USB-over-IP driver (win), Extended Desktop driver (win/mac). On the USB token are also the complete User Manuals, explaning all the wePresent features. The wePresent USB token also contains an auto-play function for Plug-and-Show.

wePresent Troubleshooting

When I start the software I don’t get a connection. What can I do?

When the wePresent software fails to connect, but results in giving an IP address of 0.0.0.0, please check that you are indeed connected (by Wifi or network) to the wePresent. If you are indeed connected, please make your computer disconnect, and forget the current (Wifi) signal. After this, please reconnect again (by Wifi) and start the software anew. If this still does not work, please check if you are using the latest firmware and software. If the wePresent is not reachable after you have adjusted the network settings, you may have set incompatible settings. If you do not know how to solve this, please connect directly by LAN-cable and set the device back to default through the Admin menu.

When doing a firmware update, what do I need to know?

Before you do a firmware update, it is recommended to save your current wePresent settings. You can do this at the firmware update section in the Admin page. With this, your wePresent is easily set up again after the firmware update. When doing the firmware update, please make sure that your webbrowser does not close or that connection is not lost in any way to the wePresent!! It is recommended to perform the firmware update while connected by LAN cable. The firmware update can take some time (10-20 minutes), depending on your computer and browser speed. After the update, your wePresent will restart. In some unique cases the firmware update may “hang still” at 99%. If this happens, please wait a minute to be sure it finished, then manually restart the device if needed. The firmware update should have been successful.

The wePresent does not show any image on VGA or HDMI, what can I do?

If you can’t see any image while the wePresent is turned on and properly connected to your VGA or HDMI display device, please go to the Admin page in your webbrowser (connect by wifi or cable and enter the IP address of the device in your browser). At the Admin page you can select the appropriate output setting for your situation. For instance, when you are using HDMI, please select any preferred HDMI output. In unique cases, when the wePresent has rebooted (for instance after a firmware update) your display may not auto-detect the new video signal. In this case, simply take out, and reconnect the video cable to the wePresent or your display.

My projection does not fit the screen, how do I adjust video dimensions?

Please check if the current output that is selected in the wePresent Admin menu has the correct dimensions, matching your screen dimensions. After the correct output is selected and the device has restarted, start the wePresent software and select “Fit Full Screen” within the dropdown menu.

Without having Administrator rights, can I still use the software?

When you insert the USB-token from the wePresent, you will also have the option to start the software directly from the USB token. With this Plug- and-Show function, you do not need Administrator rights to your computer to make a projection. This way no software is installed so only local rights are required.

What can I do when I can’t reach the wePresent anymore?

In some cases users may accidentally enter incompatible (wireless) settings in the wePresent. In unique cases this can cause the wePresent to be unreachable. When you can’t reach the wePresent by WiFi, please connect the wePresent by LAN-cable to any computer. With a direct LAN connection you should be able to reach the Admin page of the device by entering the IP address in your browser, or starting the wePresent software. Here you can adjust the settings correctly, or reset the device to factory default.

How can I reset the wePresent device back to factory default?

When you would like to reset the wePresent to original settings, it is recommended to do this by going to the Admin page of the device and simply selecting the option “reset to default”. If this is somehow not possible or not an option for you, you can also use the hard-reset button. You can find a small reset button on the bottom of the device, which you can press with a paperclip. When powering on the wePresent, press and hold the reset button until the startscreen is shown. This will reset your wePresent to the original factory default firmware and settings.

Mobile Applications

Can I create a full mirror from my tablet or phone to the wePresent?

A full mirror of your tablet or phone is for now only possible with the Sender for Galaxy, and only for the WiPG-1500

What apps are available?

With all non-Galaxy Android devices and Apple devices you can project your files (powerpoint, excel, word, pdf, jpeg) with the WiFi-Doc application. With the SidePad Receiver application, you can use your tablet/phone as a remote to control all functions of the projecting source computer (Windows/Mac). Making a full mirror of your tablet possible, but then jailbreaking or rooting of your device is required, so we do not promote this! Please contact us if you want more information.

Why does the WiFi-Doc application not show my presentation file correctly?

The WiFi-Doc application shows: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF files, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP images. With powerpoint or PDF files, Wifi-Doc will not show animations between frames or objects with complex transparency.

How does the SidePad Receiver work?

Connect your tablet/phone to the wePresent Wifi signal and then start the SidePad Receiver application. Once this is started, enable the SidePad Receiver from the projecting source computer. While the computer is projecting to the wePresent, you will now also receive your desktop image on your mobile device and thus have full control over the projecting computer.

Special Features

How can I use my touchscreen or IWB?

Plug the usb from your touchscreen into the back of the wePresent. On most current touchscreens you will directly have use of the touchscreen functionality on the wePresent. When you now start projecting a Windows or Mac computer, you will be able to control your computer on the touchscreen wirelessly using Universal Single Touch. If you need to operate your computer using Multi Touch, please install the USBoIP driver from the wePresent usb stick.

How can I use the BrowserSlides function and what are the limitations.

The projecting source must first have selected “enable BrowserSlides” in the wePresent dropdown menu or from the WiFi-Doc application. When the audience now connects their device to the WiFi signal of the wePresent, and then inputs the IP address of the device in their browser, they will be able to view and save slides of the presentation on their own device. You should be able to do this within any browser on computer/phone/tablet.

How do I use the Plug-and-Show function from the USB token?

When you plug the wePresent USB token into your computer, you should receive an auto-play notification to directly start the software from the USB. However, on some operating systems this auto-play will not be triggered. When you “explore” the USB token, you should see that the USB essentially contains two discs: PnS Data and PnS Launcher. Within PnS Launcher you will find the execution file for starting the software directly from the USB without any installation.

What are the limitations when I use Plug-and-Show from the USB token?

Some of the special features of the wePresent are only available when the full client software is installed on the computer that is projecting. When you have started the software from the USB token without installation, you can only make a basic projection. You cannot use BrowserSlides, SidePad, USB- over-IP Bridge, or Conference Control.

How do I create extra Plug-and-Show USB tokens?

Extra USB-tokens with the Plug-and-Show function can easily be created within the wePresent software dropdown menu. Insert any empty USB token into your computer and select “Create Plug-and-Show USB-token” from the dropdown menu in the wePresent software. Now simply follow the wizard.
